Kodiak’s Golden Mile
Orphan gold project is one of Mantis’ signature properties and is 100% owned by Mantis.
The property is located, in northwestern Ontario approximately 230-kilometers northeast of Thunder Bay and 50-kilometers west of Geraldton, in Rickaby township. Geologically the property is situated in the Onaman-Tashota belt, historically known as the Beardmore-Geraldton greenstone belt which generated over 4-million ounces of gold from 19-producing mines.
The Orphan gold project encompasses 17-claims covering 1,856-hectares and includes the Orphan Mine as well as the Foisey occurrence.
From 1934 to1935 the Orphan mine produced 2,460-ounces of gold and 1,558-ounces of silver from 3,525 tons of ore from the Main vein, which yielded an exceptionally high average gold grade of 0.67 ounces per ton. Although, mine development included the sinking of a 265-foot deep shaft and the establishment of the 150-level and 250-level, the mine was never brought to production largely due to management operational issues.
A limited drill program in the late 1980’s intersected 16-feet
grading 0.11-onces per ton gold at the 695-foot vertical depth. This result is especially important as it highlights the depth potential of the Main vein.
The Foisey occurrence was originally staked in 1933 and then lost to time. It was finally re-discovered in 1988 as a result of a historical research project undertaken by the Ontario Geological Survey. The Foisey is a dynamic hydrothermal gold bearing system exceeding 1-kilometer in strike length. Samples from this vein system have yielded gold values of up to 0.68 ounces per ton.
The gold-quartz vein system at the Orphan Gold project is known to exceed 2.5-kilometes in length and occurs near the edge and within the Kaby Lake stock intrusive body, and is not unlike the geological setting of Kodiak Resources’ Hercules project and Golden Mile discovery, situated 9.5-kilometes to the west.
In the fall of 2007 Mantis completed a trenching program along the Foisey vein system. Gold values of up to 0.369 ounces per ton were obtained from channel cuts.
Immediate plans are to undertake an induced polarization geophysical survey followed by a drill program commencing in the spring of 2008.
